CW Frequently asked questions

Welcome to your resource for all things Captain Whidbey! We understand that you may have questions about our accommodations, amenities, and policies, so our FAQs page is a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know when visiting us on the island.

If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly and knowledgeable staff who are available and happy to assist. Our front desk team can be reached at (360) 678-4097. We look forward to welcoming you to our humble abode soon!

How far are you from Seattle?

About sixty miles. You can find us by driving north from Seattle via the Deception Pass route or by catching the Mukilteo to Clinton ferry.

What’s the weather like on Whidbey Island?

Unlike our sister to the south, Seattle, we are in a rain shadow created by the Olympic Mountains, so we get notably less rain. Located in the sublime Puget Sound, like the rest of the Pacific Northwest, we share a maritime climate, rainfall (albeit less), and temperate climes.

When is check in and check out?

Check in is at 4:00pm and check out is at 11:00am. Upon request and depending on availability, we can accommodate an early check in or late check out.

what is your cancellation policy?

A deposit equal to one night plus tax will be charged to the credit card provided at time of booking. All reservations must be cancelled 14 days prior to arrival to receive a refund of the initial deposit.

What is unique to the Historic Lodge rooms?

Standing stalwart as if a ship run aground, the historic lodge is the heart of Captain Whidbey. The coveted and cozy Historic Lodge rooms take on the air of secret clubhouse up above the ship’s fray. Virtually unchanged from 1907, the traditions too remain. Shared men’s and women’s bathrooms, creaky floorboards, and the occasional glass clinking from the tavern below. The rooms are rustic, for our most adventurous (and least private) guests. These rooms accommodate guests who are 21+ only and unfortunately are not pet-friendly.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! We love dogs and certainly welcome them in one of our dog-friendly rooms. A $50 per night pet fee applies. Please contact us directly at (360) 678-4097 so we can check the availability of our dog-friendly rooms for your specific dates.

Do you have TVs? Wi-Fi?

No TVs in the guestrooms, but there is a communal TV in our Wellness Studio. And we do have decent Wi-Fi. Stop by the front desk to get the password if you didn’t get it when you checked in.

Do you have a restaurant?

You bet! Our restaurant is open daily in the peak season and slightly reduced operations in the slow season with a fresh menu full of locally sourced ingredients and Pacific Northwest delights. We offer dine-in and deck dining on select days in the summer. Visit our restaurant page to peek at our menu and current hours.

Do you have breakfast?

Our Espresso Bar at the General Store offers a variety of breakfast items and specialty beverages for purchase. You can visit the shop between 7:00am and 2:00pm every day (but our Front Desk team can let you in for retail snack purchases outside of these hours). We also offer complimentary coffee and tea for our hotel guests which can be found in our lobby.

Wanting to fully embrace the leisurely island lifestyle? Check out our Breakfast in Bed package, bookable on our Offers Page.

The firepit outside of the lodge is lit and tended by CW staff on Fridays and Saturdays (weather dependent). We offer complimentary s’mores on those days as well!

Are there quiet hours?

We love this place for the charm and character, but we have very thin walls and sound travels especially in our Historic Lodge. Please be respectful of your neighbors, we ask that you keep the noise down after 10:00pm and before 8:00am. Each room also has a white noise machine for guest use.

Do you allow smoking?

We are a non-smoking property. Should you choose to smoke in your room, we may assess a $300 cleaning charge.

What is there to do in the area?

Our friends at Whidbey Tourism keep an updated list of activities in the area. Check them out here.

Other activities to consider (make sure to plan ahead!) are massages at The Seaside Spa & Salon, kayaking with Whidbey Island Kayaking (we also have a select few kayaks on property that you can take for a spin in the summer months), ride a jet boat or go whale watching with Deception Pass Tours, or sail back in time with Suva Whidbey Island.
